The archipelago of the west coast of Sweden

Strategic Infrastructure

Two major reforms of the municipalities have dramatically reduced the number of these. The result of this is that many archipelagic societies now are situated on the outer boarder, as a culture of minorities, of larger cities. A different situation from before the reforms, when these societies were cities of their own. The cities they now belong to have a service- and a commercial structure which is not applicable to the archipelago. This has hindered a positive development of the archipelago.

The way of the urban societies uses to solve our need of food, housing, usage of land and water, local service, communication and democracy is seldom a good way for the archipelagic societies. Here instead is needed a structure which is appropriate to the socio-economical and cultural situation of the inhabitants of the archipelago. The solutions need to enable the islands to more easily collaborate with each other and to learn from each others experiences. To facilitate this cooperation across the archipelago we are forming an organistaion which we call stategic infrastucture. This organisation is built up by certain people well acquainted with the situation of the archipelago and of the societies and their inhabitants. These people must be able to develop, structure and implement the ideas of the local inhabitants. These people must also be able to put forward ideas for education, for example; information technology.

The Leader program contains two other main areas in which work is planned. Here we will try to give a short presentation on these main areas:
